Fall Season Draws to Conclusion

November 10, 2006

The Kennesaw State Lacrosse team completed its 2006 fall season with two home games on November 4th. The Owls dominated the first game against Georgia College and State University from Milledgeville 14-3. The second contest versus UGA had the Owls hanging tough for a half before being beat 10-2.

The first game gave plenty of chances for new players to earn spots on the spring roster. Offensive stand outs Jeremy Douthit and Robert Witt continued to fill the opponent’s net with goals. Defensively, the KSU defense looks stacked with Anthony Scrimo, Craig Holman and Mike Hakala patrolling the back line. GSCU is a first year team that expects to progress towards SELC status much like KSU did last season. Their numbers, leadership, and attitude have that program headed in the right direction and the Owls wish them well in the inaugural season.

The second game against the UGA Bulldog’s squad showed the Owls could hang with an “A” Division SELC team, but only for a half. KSU went to the locker room trailing only 2-0 at half-time after a very competitive two quarters against a talented and very deep Georgia squad. Second half adjustments to the Bulldog offense accounted for six unanswered goals by UGA in the third quarter. The Kennesaw Owls tried but had very little left in the tank against the powerful UGA team. UGA was an SELC playoff team last spring and proved this to a record crowd at Kennesaw State’s home field.

This fall the Owls improved by playing a number of teams better then their own squad. Coach Ken Byers planned it that way and does not let the 3-7 fall record detract from what he has seen these past 9 weeks. Coach Byers advised after Saturday’s effort that “there is still plenty of work for us to do, plenty of opportunity for us in the SELC and each year the program will get better.”

The Owl Booster Club held a “tailgate picnic” for family/friends between games and appreciate all those who help providing food for the event. The entire team thanks all family, friends and fans that have cheered on the Owls during their fall efforts. The entire Kennesaw State team promises an exciting spring in 2007.
